We, the programmers say, .NET garbage collector is "Undeterministic"

कब memory release करेगा कोई बता नहीं सकता, पर process kill करने पर memory का बाप भी release होगा.. 

साला दिमाग में कौनसी process को kill करेंगे? 

एकदा मार्क करून ठेवलं ना या event ला delete करायचं, पण मेंदू भलताच undeterministic आहे ..

Delete करायचे म्हणलं तरी पण त्याला cache मध्ये ठेवतो आणि

Interview ला जायच्या आधी cache मध्ये रहावं म्हणून वाचलेल्या difference between mutex and semaphore ला विसरतो.. 

Google करून पण काही फायदा नाही... कुठल्याच फोरम वर सापडत नाही 

कुणाला माहित असेल तर please सांगा ...

टल्ली झालेल्या लोकांना जुन्या गोष्टी उकरून काढून बरळंताना पाहिलंय मी.

आणि देवदास तर स्वत:च म्हणतो, टाकून काही फायदा होत नाही..

एकतर डोक्यातला Logger भलताच powerful आहे...

त्यात माझ्या डोक्याचा trace on आहे..

Debug.WriteLine सारखंच  execute होतेय

सगळंच जाऊन Event log मध्ये पडतंय...

अवघडच होऊन बसलंय...

बराच बरळतोय ना मी..  

पण मला चढली नाहीये.. अर्थात सगळे बेवडे असंच म्हणतात.. 

पण मी अजून टाकलीच नाहीये.. तरीपण एवढी बकबक..

Facade Design pattern in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Recently I've been finding lots of similarities between technical and psychological stuff, maybe now it's time to take formal education in psychology. Human behaviors, their varying responses - be it of a happy go lucky bus conductor or be it of carefree school children, or be it of ever complaining S/W engineers like us – each one offers a different case study – Certainly an interesting project to work on.

Couple of days back, I was watching Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. I've watched it several times – So most of dialogues, scenes were by heart. But this time, something new was found –Implementation of Facade design pattern.

Imran's girlfriend – not Genelia - other one played by Manjiri always play game "What's this?" It never clicked me what was director trying to say through this, but now I got it. That was Façade. Her parents do not get along – and she wasn't ready to accept it – she couldn't do anything about it – so what can be done – she built up Façade to fool herself – Game where she sees what she want to see and ignores the reality. This way, she is able to convince herself that all is well, although it is not. Exactly this is how Façade is defined on Dictionary.com – "An outward appearance that is maintained to conceal a less pleasant or creditable reality".

Hats off to the Director/Writer for putting such a well thought character and displaying minute understanding of Psychology.

P.S. On the same note - recalled one book - Tao of Physics - recommended by geek friend of mine which talks about places where modern physics meets spiritual world, it seems its time to pick that one up now.

Web development teaches Philosophy of life...

I always tend to call ASP.NET as first love(of course technical :)). Somehow windows apps never appealed me as much as Web apps. Maybe because, I first learned web development and then Windows or maybe because they are little more tricky than Windows (now that's unnecessary pride) or maybe simply because I find them easier to
develop :) I love playing around with JavaScript, PostBacks, sync-async requests and in general the Get - Post mechanism. And of course evergreen Cross browser issues!!

Now, I have found one more reason.. and this is gonna sound insane.. Web development teaches Philosophy of life...now I'm sure most of the you are going to say I am crazy.. but let me offer you an explanation..

What do sages ask us to do? - Do not live in past, it increases "Tamogun" - Do not worry about future - Do your Karma - Live in present..
Or for that matter Katrina in Zindagi na milege Dobara tells the same to Hrithik..
Or again Amir says in RDB - "humara ek pair future mein - aur ek pair past mein, isliye aaj pe *** **** hai"

So what is the relation with Web!!! Isn't the web stateless? It does not bother about what was previous requests, what will be next.. what it cares is - What it is supposed to do right now!! That is ..living in present.. Waw.. that's the place where Technology meets Philosophy...Unusual Sangam...and I'm loving ..(catch-line courtesy: MacD)

Reactions

From last few months, when I see people around me working(?), I always feel that, reactions, to be precise, reactionary measures are useless. A competent administrator/manager is the one who forsees things and then plan. Having said this, I don't deny the ability of people who react very well to unforseen situations and are able to pull them off. But its commonly observed that, such people, although otherwise common, shows extraordinary skills or I will call it heroism due to call of the hour. And I don't think that, we should rely on this heroic activities for long, what if no hero turns up? So, close your eyes, use your brain, see ahead in time and then plan.

Human behavior explained through Physics principle

You never know what the next moment is going to bring in front of you. At times, you may come across something which is totally unexpected. Something like this happened to me recently.

I was attending one session on Physics. We were discussing about unit of measuring distances, to be precise, very large units of them viz. light years, AU etc. The professor went on to explain, why light years. The lecture continued like – distance between Sun and Earth is measured in light years because the distance is too large and it is not feasible to measure it in conventional units, so we need larger units. So one light years is – distance traveled by light in one year.

Discussion continued, about AU (Astronomical Unit) and went further about how do we measure distances of stars which are far away from Sun, what are the techniques for it?

One of the method was, we know Earth is moving at certain speed in certain orbit. One of the method used this knowledge of Earth's speed and orbit to find distance of stationary object. I will try to explain it here,

(Sorry for the bad diagram, but it is really difficult for me use paint. And anyway that's not the point that we are trying to see here.)

The arc represents orbit through which Earth moves. So when Earth is at position 1, the star appears to right side of the observer, while when Earth is at position 2, star appears on left. Now using the knowledge of orbit, arc, speed of Earth, if we put up some geometrical expressions, we can find the distance between Earth and Star.

To explain this principle, rather to experiment it, professor suggested us one exercise.

He wrote one sentence on Blackboard, "This is reference sentence"

Then, he asked to hold our pen in hand, stretch the hand, and keep the pen exactly in front of our face. Now the he asked to close one eye, and then asked us what is the position of pen with respect to sentence written on blackboard.

With my left eye closed, I could see the pen somewhere on the word "reference"

Then, with my right eye closed, I could see the pen somewhere on the word "sentence"

So this was it, pen was stationary, but as I looked through different eyes, 'Position' of pen 'appeared' to be changed.

The reason being, distance between my left eye and right eye!!!

And this was the Eureka moment for me, suddenly it struck to me that, position of stationary pen appear different to me when I observe it through my own eyes, then how can two different people observing something have same views about anything. If a distance of couple of centimeters in my two eyes result in 'difference'; then it is bound for two different people to have different views on same thing.

Physics principle explains Human behavior with this experiment!!!

When anger takes over

Man is rational animal or Man is animal who behaves rationally sometimes. More I look around (or more I introspect), I always find truth in second statement.

What really happens when a person gets angry? Why do all of a sudden all wisdom he otherwise has vanishes in thin air? Suddenly ability to 'Think' becomes rare and distant dream. What otherwise would have been damn simple straight forward solution to problem(if it ever exists) seems to be a daunting task. The 'ego' creeps in, 'wisdom' says good bye and we have a person shouting(rather barking) in heated discussions. Emotions take over, what has really happened?

If the reason for anger is valid(which in retrospection and by experience, I don't think that most of the stimuli which made me angry were valid), even then reactions offered in anger make the things worse. Complexities increase multi-fold due to those reactions.

Although I am writing this supposedly anger story which is criticizing evils in lost temper, it doesn't mean I handle my reactions wisely; rather I must not be, because it explains me writing this. People who have 'witnessed' my reactions would be in better position to comment on my behavior. I can be biased with myself.

Why do I get angry? Because things are not happening the way I want them to be. Because the 'other' person has some opposite views(which in politically correct words can be said as difference of opinion). Or the best case would be I am dealing with first class 'Idiot'(read *****) who I think doesn't deserve to be here.

In all these cases, what is required is rational thinking – accepting the fact that not everything you wish will be true. If everyone starts behaving like myself, wouldn't it be robot world? It will be mechanical world, where machines produced in factory all are similar. These machines works well, I am not questioning their efficiency, but there is no "LIFE" in them.  

Differences in Humans makes the "LIFE LIVELY". The better I understand this principle, better would be ability to handle reactions, but I must say this is a very daunting task.
