My First Day at Work

The journey from a carefree college student to so called professional has very important station and that is the First Day at the work. As everyone else, I was very excited about it. (leave apart the nervousness and anxiety) , but I had something very special waiting for me there.

Usually people reach their workplace ahead of time(at least on the first day),but I am the one who reached there about four and half hours late. This is the funniest thing that can happen to anyone on his first day. This was because of misunderstanding between me and the HR person.

He had told me "UNOFFICIALLY"(means without any offer letter) that I'm selected and would be joining on 7th July(Monday) and this was the only information I had. But somehow he got feeling that all the information is communicated to me.So I was waiting for "OFFICIAL" confirmation of my joining, which did not come. So a day before I had search for someone who is joining on 7th and ask him what is the time at which freshers are supposed to report and most importantly where. During our conversation I came to know that reporting time is 9am and place is so and so, and most importantly everyone is supposed to bring their offer letter and I had none.

So on next day(the day of joining),I was ready to leave for workplace before 9am but I decided to wait for some official information rather than going there without offer letter and making a fool of myself. And the official information never came. This was the time when I was watching every second pass, checking thousand times whether my cellphone is on so that I won't miss any call, refreshing an e-mail page every minute to check for new mail.I kept doing this for long time then around 12.30 I gave up and called the HR. And to my surprise his first question was "Why I'm not in the company?" and then he asked me reach there immediately. So I went there as fast as I could then also it was 1.30, after reaching there I met him. He told me that, he was waiting there for me, because he knew I had no offer letter. And then told me that I've missed Company Founder's address to freshers and a couple of sessions. Then asked me "join crowd of freshers at the lunch". So the first thing that I did at work was lunch. :)

Then after lunch I was helped by the same HR to complete formalities and after that day went smoothly.

I will always remember "First Day of Work" (and my first thing at work) for such a tense wait of three and half hours and then the first thing that I was asked to do after joining.
